Waterloo: John Salerno, Jr., age 84, passed away on Saturday, April 8th, 2023 at Geneva General Hospital. His family will greet callers on Friday, April 14th, 2023, from 5 - 7 PM at Doran Funeral Home, 4 East Bayard St., Seneca Falls. He will be laid to rest privately at Springbrook Cemetery at the convenience of his family.
John was born in Clyde, NY, the son of the late John Sr. and Tinella (Signorffi) Salerno at the family homestead on December 21st, 1938. The family then moved to Seneca Falls where John grew up and graduated from Mynderse Academy, Class of 1956. He graduated from RIT with a degree in Engineering in 1973, and started working for Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls in 1974. While working at Goulds he held many positions in the Research and Development department, including design and drafting, and eventually as an Engineer. John retired from Goulds after more than 30 years, and even after retirement, still acted as a consultant for the company until 2020.
John was well known in the area for his bodywork on classic cars, especially Corvettes. He worked on many classic cars from all over the Finger Lakes. He was active with the Prison City Ramblers in Auburn, and enjoyed attending other car shows in the area with his own classic cars.
Above all else, he was selfless when it came to his family and close friends.
John is survived by his three sons, Marty (Kimberly), Joe (Terry Compson), Jason (Vickie Janto) Salerno; two grandchildren, Alexia and Bailey Salerno; brother, Paul "Dutch" (Mickey) Salerno, as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is also survived by his previous wife, and mother to his sons, Donna McDonald. John was predeceased by his siblings, Josie Ruzicka, Anthony Salerno, Jr., and Virginia Washburn.
