Ann M. (Mandelbaum) Cramer

Seneca Falls - Ann M. Cramer, 85, of Cayuga St., Seneca Falls, NY, passed away on Monday (December 17, 2018) at Geneva General Hospital, Geneva, NY.

Family and friends may call at the Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard St., Seneca Falls, on Saturday (December 29) from 2 PM to 4 PM. Funeral services and burial, in Springbrook Cemetery, Seneca Falls, will be at the convenience of the family. Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Ann's name be made to the Seneca Falls Library, 47 Cayuga St., Seneca Falls, NY 13148 or to Beverly Animal Shelter, River Rd., Waterloo, NY 13165.

Ann was born July 15, 1933 in Cambridge, MA. to parents Maurice & Gwendolyn North Mandelbaum, and grew up in Pennsylvania & New Hampshire.

She received a B.A. in History-Government-Economics from Colby College in Waterville, ME. She married Donald Cramer on December 29, 1956. The lived in Rochester and Buffalo where Ann worked at the University of Rochester & the University of Buffalo. In 1958 they pulled up stakes & moved to San Francisco to look for work. Her son Hans was adopted and son August (Gus) born before moving back to Don's hometown of Seneca Falls to await the birth of daughter Heidi.

Ann was librarian at Frank Knight Elementary School for 16 years. Always interested in government & politics. In 1982 she was the first woman ever elected to the Seneca Falls Village Board & served 4 terms as First Ward Trustee & sometimes Deputy Mayor. Her proudest achievement in those 16 years was her First Ward Newsletter. During those years, & even after she retired, she volunteered every spring to help former Village Park Superintendent, Joe Gallina, plant flowers on all village properties. Ann had served 11 years as election inspector.

Besides politics, Ann's other great love was books & libraries. She was a member of the Seneca Falls Library's Board of Trustees, & was a founding member, Secretary and informal chairman for many years of the Friends of the Seneca Falls Library. She belonged to Fortnightly Club, the Woman's Reading Club, Kiwanis Club, & served as Secretary on the Literacy Volunteers Board for 10 years. She also served as board member & president of the Seneca Falls Historical Society.

Ann was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Donald E. Cramer. She leaves 3 children, Hans (Laura) Cramer, Montgomery Center, VT., August (Mary) Cramer, Port Huron, MI., & Heidi Conley, Seneca Falls, NY. Her grandchildren, Chyenne Sky Cramer, Essex, NY, George (Emily), Megan, & Erin Conley of Seneca Falls, Brandon Carlson, Revere, MA., Kaitlin (Christian) Merli, Colorado Springs, CO., & Zachary Bedford, Philadelphia, PA. Her sister-in-law, Jonna-Lynn Mandelbaum, Prado, NM. In addition to her parents and her husband Don, Ann was predeceased by her brother, John Mandelbaum & her son-in-law, Daniel Conley.
