Betty Hazel (Nuffer) DeBottis

GENEVA - Betty Hazel (Nuffer) DeBottis, age 96, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center with her children by her side. Calling Hours will be Saturday, May 29th from 12-2PM at Doran Funeral Home, 4 East Bayard Street, Seneca Falls. A Funeral Service will follow at 2 PM at the funeral home. Interment to follow at St. Columbkille Cemetery in Seneca Falls.

Betty was born in Carthage, NY on November 26, 1924 to parents Hazel and Clarence Nuffer. She graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1941 and from Cortland State University in 1946 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. On May 29, 1948 she married Peter DeBottis and they later relocated to Seneca Falls. For 22 years she taught kindergarten and then 1st grade in the Seneca Falls School District. Through the years Betty volunteered for many organizations including Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Mynderse Academy Music Boosters Club, and many hours on the Taylor-Brown Auxiliary. She knit over 1,000 baby hats for Geneva Hospital maternity ward, over 100 chemo hats for Rochester Regional Health cancer centers, and also many wheelchair lap robes for veterens. She enjoyed doing needlepoint on plastic, making Christmas ornaments and villages for her family. When family got together she liked playing games and cards together (especially the board game Aggravation and card games nickel-nickel and pinochle). She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her sister, two brothers, and her husband of 60 years, Peter. She is survived by her children, Karen (Dan) Heslink, Steven (Deanna) DeBottis, Kathy (Bob) Erb, John (LeeAnn) DeBottis, Mary (Jeff) Fuller, and Betsy DeBottis, along with 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, two brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and a very special friend Helen Smithler.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the medical professionals who took such good care of her, Dr. Nakamura and Dr. Ignaczak, as well as all of the staff at the Lipson Cancer and Infusion Center in Clifton Springs.
