Donald Loucks, 88, longtime resident of Seneca Falls, passed away on Friday, November 8th, 2024, at Geneva General Hospital with his family by his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 15th, at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 97 West Bayard St., Seneca Falls. He will be laid to rest with his late wife, Joanne, in St. Columbkille Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to St. Patrick’s Church (Parish Office), 35 Center St., Waterloo, NY 13165.

Donald was born in Waterloo, NY, the son of the late Melvin Seymour and Helen (O’Connor) Loucks. From a young age, Don loved everything about sports. Growing up in Waterloo and during high school he played baseball, basketball, football, all sports that he excelled at. He was a charter member of the Waterloo Athletic Hall of Fame and was on the very first All CNY Basketball Team. After high school he attended SUNY Cortland where he continued his love of sports, playing both football and basketball at the collegiate level. Later in life, Don would become very involved in many of the youth sports programs in the area, not only as a spectator but as a coach and an advocate for the kids. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren get involved in sports and watching them enjoy playing as much as he did.

He was united in marriage with the late Joanne (Giovannini) Loucks on November 13th, 1954 at St. Patrick’s Church, and the couple were side by side for over 68 years, until Joanne’s passing in 2023. They raised their family in Seneca Falls, and Don worked for Goulds Pumps in town for 38 years, retiring in 1998 as a senior systems analyst. Don was an avid golfer and fisherman. Over the years he would take many trips to the Adirondacks where he and his friends would spend time fishing on Black Lake. He was also a member of the SMS, parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church, and a huge Boston Red Sox fan.

Don is survived by his children, Donna (Eric) Brace, Karen Loucks, Kevin (Debbie) Loucks, Lee Ann (Jim) Peterson; grandchildren, Kelli (Peter) Hawryschuk, Josh (Amanda) Loucks, Rene (Tim) Shaffer, Arin (Mike) Loucks, Joseph (Kaitlin) Saltenberger, Amanda (Isaiah) Sandroni, Christopher Plate, great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Elodie, Adrien, Sebastian, Hudson, Miles; sister, Marilyn O’Connor; and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. In addition to his dearest Joanne, he was predeceased by his brother, Ronnie Loucks and sisters, Patricia Schooley and Renee Concilla.

Don’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to neighbors and special friends, Rick and Janice Swartz, for all their help over the years. They would also like to share their thankfulness to Toni Meeks who was not only a dear friend but also a “bonus daughter” to both Don and Joanne over the years.
