Gena Suffredini, lifelong resident of Seneca Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024 at Geneva General Hospital at the age of 98. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 23rd at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 97 W. Bayard St., Seneca Falls. She will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Angelo, in St. Columbkille Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Gena was born in Seneca Falls, the daughter of the late Louis and Antonietta (Avveduti) Piagentini. She graduated from Mynderse Academy, Class of 1943, and went on to marry the love of her life, Angelo Suffredini in 1948 at St. Patrick’s Church. The couple shared 71 years together before Angelo’s passing in 2019. She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s and the ladies Auxiliary at the SMS Lodge. Gena worked for Seneca Knitting Mill for over 40 years, most of those years as the executive assistant to George Souhan.
Though she was older in age, Gena was very sharp mentally and enjoyed conversations with people of all ages. She especially enjoyed discussing politics, current events and was an avid reader. Family was always her priority, with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren holding a special place in her heart.
Gena is survived by her son, Phil (Carol); daughter-in-law, Mary Suffredini, four grandchildren, Brian (Christine), Kevin, Andrea, Timothy (Mary Jo) Suffredini; four great-grandchildren, Niko, Dominic, Stephen, Evangelina. In addition to her beloved Angelo, she was predeceased by her son, Mark; sister, Rita Rossetti; and brother, Rino Piagentini.
Gena’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Alan & Doreen Brown, Sue Kraft, Gail Parks, Michael Rossetti, and Mary Suffredini for their help and support over the years.
