Seneca Falls: Gilbert Cator passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Huntington Living Center, at the age of 87. In keeping with Gil's wishes, there are no calling hours, however a funeral service will be held on what would have been his 88th birthday, on Friday, April 14th, 2023 at 11 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 27 Fall St., Seneca Falls, NY 13148. Interment will follow at Restvale Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Central NY Chapter, 200 Gateway Park Dr. Bldg C, Syracuse, NY 13212 or to Trinity Episcopal Church.
Gil was born on Palm Sunday, April 14th, 1935, to Oren and Grace Cator, in Seneca Falls, NY. Gil was a conservationist in all aspects of his life, with a love and respect for the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and golfing. There were many trips to the Deer Horn Lodge in Canada and the local fishing streams. He was a birdwatcher and could name all the birds. Gil was a 1953 graduate of Mynderse Academy. His first job out of high school was as a Canal Lock Operator until 1960 and also served in the US Army from 1957- 1959 with the meteorologist team in Greenland. In July of 1960 he started with Goulds Pumps, first as a Machinist and by the time he retired in 1993, as a Foreman.
He was a life member of the Elks, and with all his buddies, a member of the Fur, Fin, & Feather Club in Seneca Falls. Gil was active in the Trinity Episcopal Church, serving on the House and Grounds committee and the Vestry. His family holds many good memories of their husband, father, and grandfather.
Gil is survived by his wife, Marilyn, who would have celebrated 63 years together this June 25th; daughters, Laurie (Roger) Landry, Elise (Martin) Buskey, Shelley (Ken) Bowman; grandchildren, Adam (Brittany) Bowman, Kendra (Dan) Decker, Grace Landry, Ella Landry; great-grandchildren twins, Braydon and Addison Bowman; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gil was predeceased by his brothers, Edwin, Russell, Nelson, Richard, Charles, Harry; sister, Irene; and infant twin sisters, Barbara and Geraldine.
