John E. Dekanski, 63, of Seneca Falls and previously of Niagara Falls, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 18th, 2024, doing what he loved, being outdoors. At his request, there are no public services.
John was born in Canada, the son of the late Edward and Dorothy (Mentley) Dekanski. He grew up in Cheektowaga, NY before moving to Niagara Falls and then Seneca Falls for the past 10 years. Most recently, John had worked for Walmart in Waterloo before some health issues forced him to retire. He started with them as an assembler but retired as an overnight maintenance worker.
John loved to be outdoors. He especially loved being in his tree stand with his bow and being surrounded by nature. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids; getting the family together to celebrate a birthday or a holiday was always the highlight of his day. He also loved to spend time with his longtime partner and wife, LuAnn. John and LuAnn could frequently be found at the local casinos, trying their luck with the machines. Some days they would win, some days they wouldn’t, but to them it didn’t matter because they enjoyed the time together, and that’s what John truly liked.
John is survived by his wife, LuAnn; children, William (Heather) Mackinnon, April (Josh) Gilson, Jonathan, and Mitchell Dekanski; grandchildren, Tyne, Kaesin, and Jaxsin Vanevery; and lifelong family friend, Kathy Jakubowski. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Jim Dekanski.
