Waterloo

Lawrence J. Scesny Sr., 80, of Waterloo, died on Saturday, October 19th, 2024 at Geneva General Hospital after a brief illness. A private service for Larry will be held at the convenience of his family. Donations in his memory may be directed towards Beverly Animal Shelter at beverlyanimalshelter.com or to Seneca County House of Concern at houseofconcern.org.

Lawrence was born in Seneca Falls, the son of the late John and Mary (Uticone) Scesny. He graduated from Mynderse Academy, Class of 1962. On June 26th, 1965, at St. Michael’s Church in Penn Yan, he married Mary Tanner, and the couple was blessed with 59 wonderful years together. Larry was a dedicated husband and father, always providing for his family. He worked for Seneca Knitting Mill as a foreman, a career of over 36 years, while also working at Souhan Dairy as a delivery driver, and as a maintenance worker at the Gould Hotel.

Larry was a big fan of New York sports teams, especially SU sports, the NY Yankees, and his #1 team, the NY Giants. He was a lifelong fan of classic cars, and in his younger years he loved to spend time out on Cayuga lake fishing with his wife, Mary. A true testament to his character was Larry’s ability to always see the good in people. He lived his life in a manner to be kind to others and always pay it forward; something he tried to impart on his family and close friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as “Boppy.”

Larry is survived by his dearest wife, Mary; sons, Lawrence "Bunk" (Jenny) Jr. and David P.; daughters, Gina Marie (James) Duffy and Sam (Scott) Saunders; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Sophie (Steve) Babcock of NC; brothers-in-law, Earl (Annette) Phillips and Stanley J. Tanner. He was predeceased by his parents.
