Seneca Falls - Lionel P. Minard Jr., 87, of Carol Ave., Seneca Falls, NY, died Saturday (August 25, 2012) at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY. Family and friends may attend Lionel's memorial service on Wednesday (August 29) at 10 AM at First United Methodist Church, Corner of Chapel and State St., Seneca Falls, NY with Reverend Elinor Collinsworth, Pastor, officiating. The Pocahontas Lodge #211 F.and A.M. will conduct Masonic Services at the church immediately following the funeral service. Burial will be in Springbrook Cemetery, Seneca Falls, NY. If desired, contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Corner of Chapel and State St., Seneca Falls, NY 13148 or the Seneca Falls Library, 47 Cayuga St., Seneca Falls, NY 13148. He was born in Buffalo, NY on January 21, 1925 the son of the late Lionel P. Sr, and Ida Abrams Minard After his family moved to Emporium, Pa. he graduated from Emporium High School, Class of 1941. Prior to graduation he started working at Cameron Manufacturing. He joined the Navy in 1943 and while in the Navy attended Muhlenberg College and University of Pennsylvania. He finished his Naval service as a Quartermaster 3C on the USS Denebola AD12, at Enewitok Atoll in the Marshall Islands. After Naval service he returned to Cameron Manufacturing, eventually helping to manage the business. As he progressed at Cameron, he directed the building of Radio Station WLEM and the building of Erskine Precision Wire, which became Kentucky Electronics. On June 10, 1949 he was married to Shirley S. Summerson. They have been blessed with 3 children, Paul (Donna) of Winter Springs, Florida, Deborah (Robert) Brown of Seneca Falls, and David of Pittsburgh. He was a charter member of the Emporium Country Club, serving as President in 1961, and then as Treasurer for several years. Lionel joined Sylvania in 1959 and moved to Seneca Falls in 1963, as Plant Accountant in the expanding Color Picture Tube Plant. Advancing through a number of positions, he served as Controller of Colonial Merchandising, a Sylvania subsidiary, and after the sale of the Color Picture Tube business to Philips, became Credit Manager of the operation, a position he held at retirement. During those years he was active in the United Methodist Church, serving as Treasurer for a number of years, and as a member of the Board of Trustees, both as President and Treasurer, as well as a member of most of the Committees of his Church. He was a Trustee of the Seneca Falls Historical Society, and was its Treasurer for a number of years. Golf remained at the top of his enjoyment list, playing for many years at the Seneca Falls Country Club. Lionel was a member and current chaplain of the Pocahontas Lodge #211 F.and A.M., Seneca Falls, NY. His grandchildren, Heather (Don) Lancett and Alyssa Brown have brought much joy and happiness to him, as he followed their growth from infants to confident young women.
