Seneca Falls - Louis Hylwa, 96, of Stevenson St., Seneca Falls, NY, died Saturday (January 4, 2014) at Geneva General Hospital, Geneva, NY. Family & friends may attend Louis's Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday (January 8) at 10 AM at St. Patrick's Church, Seneca Falls, with Reverend James Fennessy, Pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Columbkille Cemetery, Seneca Falls. There will be no prior calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Church, c/o St. Patrick's Church Office, 25 Center St., Waterloo, NY 13165 or Clarkson University, 8 Clarkson Ave., Potsdam, NY 13699. Louis was born in Shelton, Connecticut on January 1, 1918 the son of the late William & Esther Guter Hylwa. He was a graduate of Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering and he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. Louis had resided in Seneca Falls since 1950, moving there from Connecticut. He was retired from the former GTE-Sylvania of Seneca Falls, where he was a senior engineer. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Seneca Falls and he was an avid ham radio operator. He was a life member of the Kirk-Casey Post#366 American Legion of Seneca Falls, and a former member and past president of the Seneca Falls Village Planning Board. He was an avid golfer and a former member of the Seneca Falls Country Club. He loved to garden and was a wine-maker long before the current local wineries of today. He is survived by: His wife, Anne Doherty Hylwa of Seneca Falls whom he married on June 16, 1951. 1 daughter - Claudia Perrault - Seneca Falls, NY 2 sons - Mark (Christie) Hylwa - Seneca Falls, NY John Hylwa - Cary, North Carolina 6 grandchildren - Melissa (Edward) Tetlak, Jason (Amanda Stone) Perrault, Sara (Christopher) Deufel M.D., Lynn Hylwa, Keith & Lindsey Hylwa. 1 great grandson - Trevor Perrault 1 brother - Walter (Jean) Hylwa - Connecticut Several nieces and nephews In addition to his parents, Louis was predeceased by 3 brothers & 5 sisters, and his daughter-in-law, Elaine Hylwa.
