Mary Ann was born in Seneca Falls, the daughter of the late Leno and Irene (Felice) Giovannini. She graduated from Mynderse Academy, Class of 1958 and then went on to further her education at SUNY Cortland where she obtained her BS in Secondary Mathematics Education in 1961. She began her teaching career at Maine-Endwell Central Schools in the math department and after a hiatus to raise her daughter, returned to education at Port Byron Central School teaching math and computer science at the high school. Mary Ann retired from Port Byron after a 22-year teaching career. She had lived in various parts the Finger Lakes and Central NY, but found her calling to return to Seneca Falls in 1989 and had remained since. Some of her hobbies included watching tennis, knitting, reading, and rooting on the SU Basketball team. Her main passion in life was her grandchildren and their sports and hobbies, and making sure whenever they came to visit that she had a treat for them. Whether it was a cookie or her homemade ravioli, soup or sauce, she was always prepared to make sure her grandkids didn't go hungry. No matter if it was her family or others in need, Mary Ann made sure those around her were taken care of.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Darl) Zehr; grandchildren, Kylie (Justin Guy), Jordan (fiancé, Molly Herting), Alexandra (fiancé, Gavin Marsh) Zehr; great-grandson, Finley Vertz; sister, Joanne (Donnie) Loucks; sister-in-law, Judy Giovannini; dearest friend, Carolyn Kessler as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Mike Giovannini.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Donna Brace for her help and assistance in caring for Mary Ann.
