Peter M. Eisenberg, 76, of Seneca Falls, passed away on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, doing what he loved most, working to serve others. Visitation will be Sunday, August 11th from 2 – 6 PM at Doran Funeral Home, 4 East Bayard St., Seneca Falls. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Dave Underwood of Waterloo Baptist Church, will be held on Monday August 12th at 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be private, held at the convenience of the family. Donations in Peter’s memory may be directed to the Seneca Falls Backpack Program or any other youth enrichment programs.
Peter was born in Geneva, NY, the son of the late Dr. Benjamin Eisenberg and M. Phyllis (Foxx) Scheer. He grew up in Sarasota, FL where he graduated from Riverview High School, Class of 1966. In his early 20’s he moved to Seneca Falls where he would meet the love of his life, Fern Arnold. He and Fern dated for a few years before being united in marriage on July 5th, 1980. The couple just recently celebrated 44 years of marriage.
Peter was never the type to sit still. He worked for Seneca Army Depot as a millwright for 17 years, and NYS Canal Corporation where he started as lock operator, and later retired as a mechanic after a career of 18 years, and his most recent and favorite job was as a school bus driver for the Seneca Falls School District for the last 10 years. In addition to his day jobs, Pete also ran Pete’s Shop out of his home where he tinkered with any and all equipment that needed repair, and also ran the Hidden Cove Rest Stop Food Wagon, serving food at events all over the Finger Lakes region. Really the only time Pete stopped working was when Fern planned a family trip and told him he needed to take the day off.
In addition to Pete’s hard work ethic, he also loved to serve his community. He was a Boy Scout of over 60 years, growing up in scouts where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow; also serving as Scoutmaster for the local Troop 80 in the late 80’s through the 1990’s. As a local Scout leader, he was also on the properties committee that helped Camp Babcock-Hovey in Ovid flourish for many years. Pete was also a longtime member of the Seneca Falls Elks Lodge 992 and a longtime Freemason at the Seneca Falls Pocahontas Lodge #211 F. & A.M.
Peter is survived by his wife, Fern; sons, Eric, Adam, and James (Mark Hammond) Eisenberg; brother, David (Linda) Eisenberg of NM; sister, Yvonne Eisenberg of FL; a nephew Chris (Skyler) Eisenberg; 2 great-nieces Amelia 5, Kate 2, and many friends and loved ones.
