Seneca Falls

Robert J. Thomas, 82, longtime resident of Seneca Falls, passed away in the early hours of Sunday, September 29th, 2024, after a long illness. A graveside service will be held for Bob on October 19th at 10am, at Pine Hill Cemetery in Throop where he will be laid to rest next to his late wife, Ellen.

Bob was born in Montezuma, NY, one of nine children, to the late William and Mary (Nugent) Thomas. He came to Seneca Falls in 1970, where he worked for the Village of Seneca Falls as a mechanic, retiring after 33 years. He was a man who enjoyed working with his hands. He could often be found in his garage tinkering and working on projects. From a young age he loved the thrill of racing and raced DIRT cars for many years. As Bob got older, his desire to drive didn’t let up at all. Those in his neighborhood knew they could find him either on his John Deere tractor mowing the lawn, or out on his personal scooter, riding around town. Bob was also an avid fisherman. He had a camp in Port Ontario in the Tug Hill, where he loved to spend time in nature and hopefully catch a fish or two.

Bob is survived by his son, Mark (Nicole) Thomas; brothers, John (Joan), Joseph R., Larry L. (Betty), David P. (Patty) Thomas; sister, Helen E. (Ken) Short; sister-in-law, Lucy Thomas; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Ellen who passed in 1984; brothers, William E. and James L. Thomas; sister, Mary A. Filkins.
