Rose A (Scalmassi) Ferrara

January 28, 1915 — June 3, 2016

Seneca Falls - Rose A.. Ferrara (Toole, Felsen) passed away in Rochester, NY on Friday (June 3, 2016) at the age of 101, having lived a beautiful life. At Rose's request, there will be no prior calling hours. On Wednesday (June 8) at 11 AM please join Rose's family for her Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church, Seneca Falls, with Reverend James Fennessy, Pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Columbkille Cemetery, Seneca Falls. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101 or St. John's Foundation, 150 Highland Ave., Rochester, NY 14620-3099 Rose was born in Seneca Falls, NY on January 28, 1915 the daughter of the late Peter & Mary Scalmassi. She had resided in Seneca Falls for most of her life before moving to Rochester in 1998. She was retired from the former Seneca Knitting Mill of Seneca Falls and was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Seneca Falls. She enjoyed walking, playing cards, and traveling. She liked the time spent volunteering at St. John's Meadow in Rochester, NY where she had received the honor of Volunteer of the Year. She, also, brought communion to shut-ins, enjoyed a game of bingo, & was active in her senior group. She received a proclamation from Senator Michael Nozzolio which was read in the senate when she reached the age of 100. In addition, she received greetings from Governor Cuomo and President Obama upon this special feat. Most of all, Rose, along with her late husband, loved the time spent with their grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Mary (Thomas) Toole, JoAnn (John) Felsen, Michael P. Ferrara, and Paul (Lisa) Ferrara. Her grandchildren, Sara & Christina Felsen, Courtney & Alex Ferrara and her brother-in-law, Louis Ferrara along with many dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael J. (Mickey) Ferrara, her sisters, Camilla Gentile, Josephine Lambert, & Lena Bellomo, and her brother, Joseph Scalmassi. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. John's Home and especially, the loving & caring staff on 3 Hastings.
