Seneca Falls: James E. Brown Jr., 72, of Seneca Falls and formerly of Syracuse, passed away on Wednesday, August 17th, 2022 at Geneva General Hospital, with his loving wife by his side. Calling Hours will be Sunday, August 21st from 3-6 PM at Doran Funeral Home, 4 East Bayard St., Seneca Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 22nd at 10 AM at St. Patrick's Church, 97 West Bayard St., Seneca Falls. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Baldwinsville. Jim was born in Syracuse, NY, the son of the late James and Virginia (Lincoln) Brown Sr. Jim grew up on Whittier Ave. in the Tipperary Hill area and graduated from St. Patrick's School in Syracuse before earning his bachelor's degree from Empire State College, and his master's in social work from Syracuse University. On April 5, 1986, at St. Stephen's Church in Phoenix, NY, Jim was united in marriage with the former Jacqueline Storrings. Soon after marrying, the couple relocated to Seneca Falls, in 1987.
Jim started his counseling career in the detox unit at the former Taylor Brown Hospital. He worked at several organizations as an alcoholism counselor before earning his master's degree in social work. He then began focusing his career in the mental health field and worked within many county agencies in the Finger Lakes Region before retiring in 2010. He was known to dabble in the arts, including writing poetry, painting, and had authored his own book titled, JR. He was an avid fan of both SU basketball and football alike. Jim was always the life of the party who had a quick wit and a profound sense of humor. Above all though he loved spending time with his family and was so very proud of his children and all that they had accomplished in life.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Jacqueline; son, Dylan Brown; daughter, Danielle Brown; sister, Kathy (Dan) DeRose; brothers, Robert (Terri) Brown, Paul (Missy) Brown, Fred Brown; beloved grand dog, Luna; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his son, Devin; half brother, Ben Miller; nephew, Matt DeRose, and sister-in-law, Colleen Brown.
